The Home Health Director of Nursing is responsible for the administration of the day-to-day operations of the home care facility. This includes: coordinating and completing assigned projects to effectively support the immediate and long range objectives of the company; oversight of the eligibility of patients referred to home care services, planning for the services to be provided to patients and supervising their total home health care; implementing and maintaining administrative practices, agency philosophy, goals, and policies which assure compliance with applicable state and federal regulations; enhancing the profitability of the agency; and providing motivation and retention of a qualified staff and assure the quality of services delivered. This position also acts as a liaison with management staff and other departments throughout the company.

Qualifications

License Requirements
  • Current RN licensure in state of practice.
  • Current CPR certification required.
  • Current driver's license and vehicle insurance, and access to a dependable vehicle, or public transportation.
Additional State License Requirements
  • AL, AR, GA, ID, KY, MI, MO, NC, OH, OK, OR, RI, SC, TN, VA, WA, WV, WI - No additional state specific requirements.
  • AZ: Must be a RN with at least three (3) years of nursing experience, including at least two (2) years of experience as a RN providing home health services.
  • CA: Must be a registered nurse with a baccalaureate or higher degree in nursing or other health related field with three years of experience within the last five years in a home health agency, primary care clinic or health facility, at least one year of which was in a supervisory or administrative capacity. Or A registered nurse with four years experience within the last five years in a home health agency, primary care clinic or health facility, at least one year of which was in a supervisory or administrative capacity.
  • CO: Must be a RN with at least two (2) years of nursing experience including one (1) year in home care or a closely related service.
  • FL: Current RN licensure in Florida. Must have one year of full-time supervisory experience as a registered nurse. May qualify for DON for up to two (2) home health agencies if the agencies share identical controlling interests. The DON can direct up to five (5) home health agencies when: a) the agencies have identical controlling interests, b) the agencies are located within one agency geographic service area or within an immediate contiguous county, and c) the agencies have a qualified RN who meets the qualifications of the director of nursing and has a written delegation from the DON to act as the DON when the DON is absent from the agency.
  • IL: Must be a full time registered nurse with a bachelor's degree in Nursing and at least one year of nursing experience. Or a full time registered nurse with at least 3 years of nursing experience and meets the following criteria: at least 2 years of nursing experience must have been in a home health agency. community health program, or a generalized family-centered nursing program in a community health agency AND at least 2 years of the 3 years nursing experience must have been obtained within 5 years prior to current employment with the home health agency.
  • LA: Current RN licensure in Louisiana. Must have at least 3 years of experience as a Registered Nurse. One year must consist of full-time experience in providing direct patient care in home health setting.
  • MD: Must be a RN who is qualified by having 2-3 years of experience OR education in community health nursing.
  • MS: Current RN licensure in Mississippi. A baccalaureate degree in nursing and two (2) years of registered nursing experience. Or A graduate of a diploma school of nursing with two (2) years of registered nursing experience. Or an associate degree in nursing with four (4) years of registered nursing experience. Or an incumbent Director of Nursing as of July 1, 1981.
  • PA: Current RN licensure in Pennsylvania with at least 1 year of nursing experience.
  • TX: Current RN licensure in the State of Texas or Compact License. The DON may also be the Administrator, providing he|she meets the specific qualifications. May also be the Administrator of the agency if meets the agency qualifications as described in 97.244(a). Must have at least one (1) year experience as an RN obtained within the last 36 months.
